MEMBERSHIP OF WATERLOO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP

Membership of WCDG is open to any individual aged 18 or over:

  • Who is a permanent resident of the Waterloo area*, and

  • Who supports the objects and policies of WCDG.

  • Who has completed an application for membership that the Management Committee decides to admit to membership

*Waterloo is the area bounded by the river Thames, Lambeth Road and Blackfriars Road. A permanent resident is defined as a resident living for year or more in the area.

Membership requirements

The Management Committee of WCDG may at its discretion admit to membership any individual who supports the objects of the charity.

Note: WCDG welcomes donations to support its work, however, to become a Registered Member of WCDG a membership subscription/fee is not required.

Policies

WCDG members are involved in formulating and approving the policies of WCDG. Current policies include:

​

Support of a balanced, sustainable and stable residential community in Waterloo in high quality housing and environment by:

  • Redressing the imbalance of land uses

  • Increasing the amount of genuinely affordable rented housing, particularly for young families, as well as the amount of sheltered housing for all incomes

  • Improving the health and well being of residents with a safer greener, cleaner environment and an improved microclimate

  • Protecting the history and identity of our streets and public spaces and enhance their visual appearance

  • Increasing and improving the amount of useful, green open space

  • Retaining and increasing retail facilities useful to local residents

  • Protecting and enhancing the viability of Lower Marsh and The Cut as the shopping centre for Waterloo

  • Improving community facilities in Waterloo for residents of all ages and needs including a new library

  • Improving air quality and reducing traffic pollution by reducing all parking including coaches, taxi waiting, an end to ground level off street parking and non-local traffic

Registered Members are invited to regular public meetings and the Annual General Meeting. Members are involved in the governance of WCDG by exercising a vote on the Annual Report and the Annual Accounts and the election to membership of the WCDG Management Committee.

Objects of Waterloo Community Development Group

  • The advancement of education and training with reference to urban planning and transport, and the protection, conservation and improvement of the environment.

  • The creation of training and employment opportunities by the provision of works, space, buildings and/or land for use on favourable terms.

  • The provision of recreational and other facilities for leisure-time occupations for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social or economic circumstances have need of such facilities.

  • The protection, conservation and improvement of the environment, and the preservation of buildings of historical or architectural importance.

  • The promotion of public safety and the prevention of crime.

  • To develop the capacity and skills of members of the community in the area of benefit, in such a way that they are better able to identify and help meet their own needs and to participate more fully in society.

  • The promotion of good health.

  • The relief of poverty and unemployment.
